Virtual Access Point (VAP) on Mikrotik is a virtual interface that can be used to create multiple Access Point from one physical Wireless interface. So with just one physical Wireless interface alone, we can create multiple Access Point with SSID, IP address, and MAC Address different each AP.
Virtual Access Point on Mikrotik can also use DHCP Server on each VAP. In addition, we can also set the firewall on this VAP interface. The feature is the same as in Virtual LAN (VLAN) on a wired network.
Examples of the use of Virtual Access Point Mikrotik for example when you want to create two hotspots in your office, where one hotspot is used as a special hotspot employee, while the other special for office guests. You can make this only with a Mikrotik that has one physical wireless interface. Of course by utilizing this VAP feature.
How to make VAP in Mikrotik is very easy. Open Winbox, go to Wireless menu -> Enable its wireless interface -> Set WLAN with AP Bridge mode -> Set other parameters as you wish.
Next, still in the Wireless Tables window, click the + button and select VirtualAP.
In the General Tab, you can change the name of VAP and its MAC Address. While on the Wireless tab, you can change the name of the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
Master Interface is a physical wireless interface owned by Mikrotik. if Mikrotik has only one WLAN interface, then the Master interface is only one.
This VAP can also be assigned a different Security Profile from its master interface. Please create your Security profile and attach it to the desired VAP.
In general, this VAP has the same features as its WL interfaces master. However, in VAP it can not set the frequency used, because the frequency and Band settings, channel width, its mode follow the Master Interface.
One of the fun things that can be done with this VAP is when we want to make a speech or certain words by utilizing the SSID on VAP.
Okay, enough so much tutorial Mikrotik Networking about Virtual Access Point Mikrotik.
