Mikrotik AutoBackup: Send Backup Files to FTP Server

Performing regular backups of MikroTik configuration may reduce the risk of long downtime due to the need to reconfigure the router when there is a problem with the router. At least if the router is damaged, or RouterOS is corrupted, we do not need to bother anymore config from the beginning. Just restore its configuration from backup files that have been saved before.

But the problem sometimes we are too lazy to just do a backup configuration and save it. Just as lazy as me who has to manage dozens of Mikrotik Router. Tired of having to backup config one by one, hehe:

Actually, in the previous Mikrotik Tutorial I’ve discussed:
1. Auto Backup Configuring Mikrotik with Scripts and Scheduler
2. How to Send Automatic Mikrotik Backup via Email

Mikrotik Tutorial This time is the development of the tutorial, where the backup and export files that have been generated instead of sent to Email, but uploaded to Folder on FTP Server automatically and scheduled. So the backup & export files that are uploaded to FTP will be neat, easy to find, and quick to use. His example looks like this:

Here we will use the Fetch Tool Mikrotik to perform the file upload process. In addition, we will also use the Script & Scheduler for its automation.

Tutorial How to AutoBackup Mikrotik: Send File Backup to Automatic FTP Server

1. Make sure we have access to the FTP Server to create the directory of the location of the backup file upload.

2. Login via Winbox Mikrotik -> Make sure his Mikrotik can ping to FTP Server.

3. Create a Mikrotik Auto Backup Script. Go to System menu -> Scripts -> Add new Script -> Give name auto backup -> on Source column-fill:

The example looks like the following picture:

Script Autobackup Mikrotik
Script Autobackup Mikrotik

This script is run will generate backup (backup) and export (.rsc) files with a recognizable naming format.

4. Create a Script again to upload the backup file. Here we will create two separate scripts for uploading .backup and .rsc files. To upload the backup file script name upload backup -> Script source as follows:

Script Upload Backup
Script Upload Backup

5. This script is made to upload file export (.rsc) -> Give name upload rsc -> Fill Source with the following script:

The example is like the following picture:

6. Next, we try Run second Script upload it. Try checking on the upload destination folder in the FTP Server. If the script configuration is correct, it should show the .backup and .rsc files like the following picture:

Upload File Backup RSC ke FTP
Upload File Backup RSC ke FTP

If you have not yet appeared the backup file, please check again the data on his script. Make sure his FTP username and password have permissions Read / Write (RW) permissions on the upload destination folder.

7. Now it’s time to make scheduling, so the script can run automatically and scheduled. We use Scheduler, go to System menu -> Scheduler -> create 3 new schedules for each script we have created.

Here I demonstrate to make the script run automatically on March 01, 2017 with a 30-day interval, so this script will run starting on March 1, 2017, and will auto path every 30 days.

Make sure all three scripts are not automatically extracted at the same time. Prefaced the auto backup script, then upload backup and upload rsc script. Example of its configuration please see the following picture:

Well, now live config other Mikrotik Router to auto backup to FTP Server as well. No problem tired config in the beginning if the future is not tired every month collect backup files one by one: D.
