Google Drive is Google’s cloud storage service. Google has not yet released an official drive app for Linux. This application allows you to synchronize your files in google drive between computer and Google Drive servers using console interface in Linux systems. The biggest advantage of being a console application is that you can easily use it in your own console applications. For example, with Cronjob, you can write a script that takes a regular backup of your web server and uploads it to Google Drive.
I’ll just show you how to install with Ubuntu package.
To install, we need to add the repository for Ubuntu to our system. For this
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:twodopeshaggy/drive
Run the command. We then update our application repository:
By using the sodu command, we have used administrator privileges. When we use the sudo command, it will prompt you to enter a password to access privileges before executing the command. You can enter your user password and continue (the password will not appear on the console screen while typing).
sudo apt-get update
Now we can install the app:
sudo apt-get install drive
After the installation, the file we will synchronize with Google drive must not be installed on the file, for this:
drive init ~/GoogleDrive
we are run the command. When this command is executed, Google will give you an authorization address to contact your account, open it in your browser, give the necessary permissions and paste the generated verification code into the console. The Google Drive folder in your home directory is now ready to sync with Google. To download your files from Google Drive to your computer, you first come to the Google Drive folder and run the following command:
To do this, we’re syncing our google account on the opened page.
With this command, your files in Google Drive will be downloaded to your computer. If you only want to download a specific file or folder, you can specify this file or directory immediately after the pull command.
drive pull Documents
The push command is the command you must use to upload changes and new files to your Google Drive.
As with the pull command, you can specify a specific file or folder to load after the push command.
drive push Documents / assignment.odt
I hope it has been a useful article.
